Why it left the United States
The Netflix output deal with The CW gave Netflix exclusive streaming rights for five years after a series' final season landed on the service, not five years after the finale aired. Supernatural's last season reached Netflix days after the 19 November 2020 finale, and the licence expired in mid-December 2025.
It reached Prime Video on 1 December 2025, seventeen days before the Netflix removal, and Peacock on 22 December 2025. For those seventeen days it sat on Netflix and Prime Video at the same time. Both are non-exclusive.
What is unusual is where it did not go. Warner Bros. Discovery owns the series and owns HBO Max, so the obvious move was to take it home. Ownership is not settled either. Netflix agreed to buy the Warner studio in December 2025 and walked away in February 2026, and Paramount Skydance then won shareholder approval for the whole company in April 2026. As of 26 September 2026 that deal has cleared its regulators and has not closed. HBO Max carries it across much of Europe and in Australia. It does not carry it in the United States. The rule that a studio brings its catalogue home does not hold here, and any article that explains the removal that way is guessing.
Why it arrived in the German-speaking markets
On 1 February 2026 the complete series, all 327 episodes, appeared on Netflix in Germany. Netflix in Austria and Switzerland carries all fifteen seasons as well, though only the German arrival has a documented date.
This is a return rather than an unbroken run. Netflix Germany carried the first ten seasons until 14 November 2018 and then lost them. It also sits alongside HBO Max in those markets rather than replacing it, which tells you the rights were sold non-exclusively.
There is no published end date for that licence. Treat it as current rather than permanent.

This universe has more entries than most people expect, and they do not travel together.
The Winchesters, the prequel about John and Mary, ran for one season on The CW in 2022 and 2023 before being cancelled. In the United States it sits on HBO Max, which is the one American service the parent series does not sit
