What we cover

VPNGrades covers consumer VPN services: what they cost, what they claim, what independent sources say about those claims, and which service suits which situation. We also cover the questions that bring people to a VPN in the first place — regional streaming availability, privacy on shared networks, and the practical limits of what a VPN can and cannot do.

We do not cover enterprise networking, and we do not cover services we cannot buy and read the terms of.

Why there are no individual bylines

Articles on VPNGrades are attributed to the VPNGrades Editorial Team, not to a named person. That is a deliberate choice rather than an omission.

A byline is a promise: it says a specific person with specific experience stands behind the claims. Where a site cannot substantiate who that person is and what they have actually done, a name adds the appearance of authority without the substance. We would rather be accountable as an organisation than borrow credibility from a name.

If that changes — if a named editor takes responsibility for a section — the byline will change with it, and the credentials behind it will be checkable.

How the research is done

Every claim on this site comes from one of four kinds of source, and we treat them differently. This is set out in full in our review methodology, but in short:

• Provider documentation — pricing, device limits, server locations, supported protocols, refund windows. Published by the provider and checkable by anyone.

• Independent sources — third-party security audits, published research, regulatory and court filings, app store listings.

• First-hand observation — where we have looked at something ourselves, we say so and say what we looked at.

• User reports — forum and community accounts. These are anecdotes. We treat them as signals about experience, never as measurements.

How commercial relationships are handled

VPNGrades earns commission when a reader buys a subscription through our links, and those commercial terms differ between providers. That can affect the order in which providers appear. We say so plainly here, in our affiliate disclosure, and in the methodology that explains how the ranking is built.

What commercial terms do not do is change a stated fact. A price is a price and an audit either happened or it did not.

Updates and corrections

VPN pricing, server counts and streaming availability change constantly. A review that was accurate in March can be wrong by September. Our corrections and updates policy explains how we handle that and how to tell us when something is out of date.
