Is The X-Files on Netflix?
No. On 27 September 2026, 23 Netflix regions were checked, and the series was on none of them. Netflix runs in more than 190 markets, so that is a sample, not a global verdict.
In the United States it is on Hulu, all 11 seasons, and free with adverts on Pluto TV. Elsewhere it is on Disney+, all 11 seasons, in 20 of the 23 markets checked. Two exceptions: India shows no legal route, and South Africa gets Prime Video from 30 September 2026.
Netflix carried it once. Reports dated 24 April 2015 described the first episodes turning up in HD on Netflix in the United States. All nine seasons that existed then were on the service by early June 2015. That is why people still look.

"It left Netflix" is not one fact with one date
Most pages treat the removal as one global event on one date. Rights are sold territory by territory, Netflix is in more than 190 of them, and this series was never in the same place everywhere at once. A claim about the United States tells you nothing about Poland.
The related habit is lumping the films in with the series. They carry separate rights: in the US, The X-Files (1998) is a subscription title on Prime Video and not on Hulu, while I Want to Believe (2008) is on both.
The US: Hulu, or free on Pluto TV
Hulu has all 11 seasons. Disney+ bundle subscribers reach it through the Hulu side, but the licence sits with Hulu, not with standalone Disney+. Pluto TV has all 11 seasons free with adverts.
Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store and Fandango at Home sell it by season and as a complete series. A complete 11-season purchase usually costs several times one month of a subscription, so if one month gets you through the run, buying the set rarely pays. One season often does. Check the price of the season you want.
Outside the US: Disney+ and local side routes
On 27 September 2026, Disney+ has all 11 seasons in the Netherlands, Ireland, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia.
Side routes appeared too: Sky Go in the UK and Ireland, Joyn in Germany and Austria, M6+ and SFR Play in France, Tivify in Spain, Oldflix (two seasons) in Brazil, My5 free with adverts in the UK. Prime Video listed all 11 seasons in France and Turkey, two in the UK and one in Japan. A two-season listing is a partial catalogue.
Who owns it, and why it is not going back
Ten Thirteen Productions made it with 20th Century Fox Television, now 20th Television. Disney took that studio over with 21st Century Fox in 2019, and Disney feeds its own services: Hulu at home, Disney+ abroad. A Ryan Coogler reboot took a pilot order at Hulu on 23 February 2026, with Danielle Deadwyler in the lead and Chris Carter as executive producer; Himesh Patel joined on 26 March 2026. A pilot order is not a season order: no premiere date, nothing to watch.
11 seasons, 218 episodes: seasons 1 to 9 on Fox from 10 September 1993 to 19 May 2002, six episodes in early 2016, ten more up to 21 March 2018. No season 12 after Gillian Anderson left.
What was checked, and what was not
Checked: the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea. The verdict holds for those 23 and says nothing about the rest. Belgium and Sweden were not checked.
Open points. The date it came off Netflix is not established, only that Netflix in the United States had it from late April 2015. Whether Netflix Canada ever carried it is not established either. In France and Turkey it is unclear whether the Prime Video listing is included with Prime or is a paid add-on channel, which decides whether you pay extra. In South Africa, Disney+ is not listed as a route although Disney+ operates there, and whether that is a real licence to Prime or a data gap is unconfirmed. India returning zero routes was not checked against a second source. The side routes above come from one aggregator, so verify them in your own account. In the data's favour: no withdrawn service names appeared, no Star+, no Starzplay, no Disney+ Hotstar.
