Almost every page answering this question describes December 2020. The West Wing left Netflix in the United States on 25 December 2020 for HBO Max, and that was the whole answer for five years. It stopped being true in December 2025.
Yes in the United States: all seven seasons, on both Netflix plans, and on HBO Max at the same time. The licence is not exclusive, so it is a return alongside HBO Max, not a move away from it.

The three mistakes in most answers
First, the stale answer. "It left Netflix for HBO Max" was right from December 2020 and wrong for the United States since December 2025.
Second, the overcorrection. "Back on Netflix" gets written as global news. It is an American licence, and no Netflix in the eleven other markets checked carries it.
Third, ownership. NBC broadcast the series, it never owned it. Warner Bros. Television and John Wells Productions made it and Warner Bros. Discovery holds it now. An owner with its own streaming service keeps its best library at home, which is why the show sat exclusively on HBO Max for five years.
Netflix in the United States
Seven seasons, 154 episodes, broadcast from 22 September 1999 to 14 May 2006. No partial catalogue turned up anywhere: where the series is on subscription, the full run is there. Two independent listings agree on the American picture.
9 December 2025 was the planned date, reported with the caveat that it could move, and no confirmation of the day it actually landed was found. That it is there now is confirmed, the exact date is not.
The eleven other markets that were checked
United Kingdom: Channel 4, free with advertising, all seven series, confirmed on Channel 4's own site, plus Sky Go.
Ireland: probably as the UK. See the limits below.
Germany: HBO Max.
Australia: Stan, HBO Max, and free with advertising on 9Now.
Canada: fuboTV and StackTV through Amazon Channels, no Netflix and no HBO Max.
Japan: U-NEXT, including the HBO Max hub inside it.
France: no subscription offer, rent or buy through Canal VOD.
Netherlands: no streaming offer at all, DVD purchase only.
Spain, Mexico and India: no subscription offer.
HBO Max is the home base only where it carries the title: of the twelve checked, that is the United States, Germany, Australia and Japan.
The owner is about to change hands
Paramount Skydance won the takeover battle for Warner Bros. Discovery, announced in late February 2026. Announcement and completion differ. The Department of Justice approved it on 12 June 2026, California and the Writers Guild of America settled on 21 September 2026 under a five year consent decree, and the remaining state lawsuits are unresolved: Paramount Skydance has undertaken not to complete the purchase until that case is decided or 1 June 2027, whichever comes first. It had not closed on 27 September 2026.
Paramount Skydance has said it wants to merge Paramount+ into HBO Max, with no date given. The length of the Netflix licence is not public, and loan deals are temporary.
Buying versus subscribing
A seven season boxset usually costs several times one month of a subscription. A single season often does not. Buying season 1 to try it can be reasonable, buying all 154 episodes almost never is. Prices differ by shop and by country, so look up the season you actually want rather than trusting a figure in an article.
What this page does not establish
Twelve markets were checked: the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Canada, Australia, Japan, Mexico and India. Netflix operates in more than 190, so roughly 180 are unchecked. Nothing here covers Latin America beyond Mexico, Scandinavia, eastern Europe, Africa or the Middle East.
The Irish reading is unreliable. Alongside Sky Go it listed Netflix, Disney+ and Discovery+, almost certainly Sky Ireland's bundle rather than this series. Ireland is treated as probably like the UK, not as a Netflix market.
For France, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, Mexico and India, only the absence of an HBO Max offer for this series was established. Whether HBO Max operates there at all was not checked.
Counts of how many countries have it mix subscription with rent and buy, so they do not tell you whether you can stream it where you are.
No dead or renamed service appeared in any market checked, and the service was called HBO Max everywhere, matching its rename on 9 July 2025. That suggests the data is current rather than proving it, so check your own account.
