On 30 July 2026 Netflix and AMC Global Media announced a five-year, 500 million dollar co-exclusive agreement covering the original series and all six spin-offs. The gap between that announcement and the actual availability is where most coverage of this goes wrong, in both directions. Older guides describe a market that is about to change. Newer ones describe an expansion that has not landed anywhere yet.
Netflix has been the exclusive US streaming home of the original series since 2011. The agreement keeps the series on Netflix there, but it ends that exclusivity from early 2027, when AMC+ carries it as well.
The new territories come under the same 2027 timetable, title by title and country by country, as each existing licence in that market expires.

What the July 2026 agreement actually covers

Two details in that list matter more than the headline.
The original series and the spin-offs are on different timetables
The original series is the part that moved first. The spin-offs are scheduled to arrive globally from 2027, alongside AMC+ where that service operates.
So a search that returns the original series tells you nothing about whether Daryl Dixon or Dead City will play on the same account. Check each title on its own. The universe is licensed as a package, but it is not delivered as one.
Co-exclusive does not mean Netflix only
A co-exclusive deal lets more than one service carry the same title in the same market. AMC+ keeps The Walking Dead where AMC+ is available.
That is worth knowing before you pay for anything. If you already hold an AMC+ subscription, a second service may add nothing for this particular show.

If The Walking Dead is not on Netflix where you are
Two honest options, and one that gets oversold.
The first is AMC+, which carries the recent spin-offs in the markets where it operates. It does not carry the original series today and gains it only in 2027, so it is a route to Daryl Dixon and Dead City rather than to the original if your country is not yet covered by the Netflix agreement.
The second is waiting. Territories are still being added under a deal that runs to 2032, and the spin-offs are scheduled for 2027. For this particular franchise the direction of travel is towards more availability, not less.
