Is The Mentalist on Netflix?
Yes, in most countries we checked. On 27 September 2026 all seven seasons were on Netflix in 13 of the 14 territories we measured: the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, India and South Africa. No market had a partial catalogue.
The United States is the exception, and it is the market most articles describe. Netflix is absent from the American listing. Hulu is the only subscription there. The ad-supported tier is 12.49 dollars a month for new sign-ups, raised from 11.99 on 23 September 2026, with existing subscribers moving to that price on their first billing cycle on or after 21 October 2026. Ad-free Hulu is 21.49 dollars. It plays in the Hulu app or inside Disney+. So "The Mentalist is not on Netflix" describes one country. Fourteen markets is not the world either: Netflix runs in more than 190.
All seven seasons are on Netflix in 13 of 14 measured markets. The US is the only one without it.
In the US it is Hulu only. Buying all seven seasons starts at 139.93 dollars, 11.2 months of that subscription.
Netflix added it on 1 March 2026 in the UK, Canada, Australia and Latin America. The other nine markets
have no dated start that we could find. The announcement of 2 February named four regions and was incomplete.

Netflix by country, and what has a dated end
The 13 listings were read live from JustWatch country pages on 27 September 2026, except Canada (21 September) and Brazil (23 September). Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, India and South Africa all carry it today, and none appeared in the February announcement, which named only the UK, Canada, Australia and Latin America. We could not date the start in any country beyond 1 March 2026.
Other services have fixed windows. JustWatch showed Sky Go in the UK and Ireland ending on 29 September 2026 and Prime Video there on 30 December 2026 when we checked on 27 September 2026. Windows like these move, so read them as the position on that date. HBO Max ends in Germany on 31 January 2027, Australia on 29 March 2027, and Mexico and Argentina on 29 June 2027. Two markets have it free with advertising: Joyn in Germany and TF1+ in France.
The United States is the exception
American listings that name HBO Max are pointing at a bundle, and it is the Hulu half of that bundle that carries the show. HBO Max also sells standalone plans in the United States, at 10.99, 18.49 and 22.99 dollars a month, and the series does not appear in any of them. On hbomax.com the American path for the show's content id returns a 404, while the Jamaican path with the same id returns a working page, both requested from the same American IP. We read that as the show being absent from the American HBO Max catalogue, but one status code is thin evidence on its own, and the country pages that do load still refuse to play from an American connection. A 2 February 2026 trade piece listing "Max and Hulu" for America is out of date, and Max is no longer a service name.
Hulu has no recorded end date, so the American position cannot be projected forward. The standalone Hulu app is being retired during 2026, announced on 6 August 2025, with no date named.
Buying instead of subscribing
Buying season by season comes to 139.93 dollars at Fandango At Home, 146.93 at Amazon Video and 174.93 at Apple, which is seven seasons at each store's own per-season price. The stores also sell complete-series bundles, priced separately and sometimes lower, so check the bundle before you buy seven times. Against Hulu at 12.49 dollars a month that is 11.2, 11.8 and just over 14 months. One season from 19.99 dollars is 1.6 months, so one season can be defensible where the full set is not.
Germany and France look different, with Apple pricing the full set at 52.93 and 48.93 euros. We do not convert that into months of subscription, because we hold no reliable monthly price for either market. We quote no monthly price outside the US: our source's own figures disagreed with each other for three of those markets.
Who owns it, and why America differs
Warner Bros. Television produced the series with Primrose Hill Productions, the company of creator Bruno Heller and lead Simon Baker. It ran on CBS from 23 September 2008 to 18 February 2015, seven seasons and 151 episodes, but CBS never owned it. The parent today is Warner Bros. Discovery, which runs HBO Max, and that explains the pattern. HBO Max carries the show in several markets, Australia, Germany and Spain among them, while the American streaming rights sit with Hulu. We could not confirm the HBO Max listing in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil or Jamaica, so we do not claim it here.
Paramount Skydance agreed on 27 February 2026 to buy Warner Bros. Discovery. Twelve state attorneys general sued on 13 July and settled on 21 September 2026. The deal had not closed by 27 September 2026. The twelve states settled on 21 September, a court order held the closing until 28 September, and Paramount's chief executive said completion would follow about two weeks after the settlement, so a close in early October is the expected outcome rather than a remote one. Availability has not changed because of it, and if it closes, CBS and Warner Bros. Television land beside both Paramount+ and HBO Max, which makes an American Netflix deal less likely.
What we could not establish
No Netflix offer in any market records an end date, so we cannot say how long this lasts. We found no dated source for whether the show was on Netflix in the US before. We could not settle the HBO Max listing in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. The show's HBO Max page does load on those country paths, but a page loading is not proof of a licence and we could not sign in from those countries to check. Listings were fetched through an American server, and no second aggregator was reachable as a cross-check. Japan, Italy, Korea, the Nordics, most of Asia and Africa and the Middle East were not checked. Search your own Netflix app.
What a VPN does and does not do here
A VPN changes the network location your connection appears to come from. It does not change your billing region, and it cannot add a title to a plan that does not include it. Netflix picks the catalogue from the address you connect from, and it checks that address against lists of known VPN and datacentre ranges. When it matches, the library can shrink to the titles Netflix holds worldwide rights to, or playback is refused outright. Reaching another country's library this way can also conflict with the service's terms. It is useful for privacy on shared networks, a separate question.
