Is Shrek on Netflix?
It depends on the country your account is in. In the United States, no. The four main films left Netflix there on 1 November 2025 and are on Peacock. In the twelve other markets checked for this page, yes.
That removal gets reported as global news. It was not. It hit the American catalogue only. Netflix runs in more than 190 markets, so one market losing a title is not a worldwide move. The second mistake is treating Shrek as one title. Even inside the US it is not.
In the US, the four main films are on Peacock Premium. They left Netflix on 1 November 2025.
Shrek was on Netflix on 27 September 2026 in the UK, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Brazil, Mexico and India.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is on Netflix in the US. The main four are not.
Outside the US, Disney+ carries the film alongside Netflix in ten of those twelve markets, though the UK and Canadian Disney+ listings were due to drop it in the middle of October 2026.

The removal was American, not global
On 1 November 2025, Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After left Netflix in the United States for Peacock Premium and Premium Plus. They can also be rented or bought there from Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store and Fandango At Home, and Shrek the Third is free with adverts on The Roku Channel.
The films stayed on Netflix in the twelve other markets checked, and were still there on 27 September 2026.
Where Shrek is on Netflix now
Shrek (2001) was on Netflix on 27 September 2026 in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Brazil, Mexico and India, including the ad-supported tier where one exists. In the UK, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After were on Netflix too, so all four main films were there.
In ten of the twelve, all except the Netherlands and India, the film is on Disney+ as well, and Prime Video carries it in several. The Disney+ route is the less stable one. In the United Kingdom and Canada the Disney+ listing carried a leaving notice for the middle of October 2026, so those two markets may already be Netflix only. Australia is the broadest of the twelve, with seven separate providers carrying it, and more listings than that once each provider's ad-supported and reseller tiers are counted.
Outside the US, a missing Shrek usually means the wrong app, not a lost licence.
The franchise is not one title
Four main films, two Puss in Boots spin-offs, two specials and a series, all with separate rights. In the US those rights point three ways: the main four on Peacock, Puss in Boots (2011) on HBO Max, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) on Netflix. The Adventures of Puss in Boots, which began as a Netflix original, is on Peacock. Shrek the Halls is not streaming in the US at all, only sold as a disc. Six films there means three subscriptions.
Shrek 5 is scheduled for cinemas on 30 June 2027, pushed back on 11 August 2025 from 23 December 2026. A spin-off called Donkey is announced for 30 June 2028. Neither exists on 27 September 2026, and no streaming destination has been confirmed for either.
Who owns Shrek, and why that settles the US answer
NBCUniversal has owned DreamWorks Animation since 2016, and it also runs Peacock, a direct Netflix competitor. For new releases in the US the published arrangement is a rotation rather than a fixed home. Universal films go to Peacock for about four months, then to another service for about ten months, then back to Peacock for the final four. Animation from DreamWorks Animation and Illumination takes the middle slot on Netflix. Universal live action goes to Amazon Prime Video instead. That deal was renewed in October 2024, and it sets the pattern for the United States only. Deals elsewhere are struck per market and are not published.
So "Shrek is on Peacock" is an American snapshot, not a settled state.
Buying versus subscribing
Buying the whole run digitally normally costs several times one month of a subscription. For a single film it can go the other way. Check the price of the exact film you want in your own country's store. The argument for buying is durability: every placement here rests on a licence with an end date.

One expiry date is visible. The Disney+ listings for the four films in the United Kingdom and Canada carried a leaving notice for the middle of October 2026. No Netflix licence expiry was found in any market, and no return date to Netflix US was found. One good sign on freshness: no market listed a withdrawn service such as Lionsgate+, Starzplay or Star+, which is the usual tell of stale data.
