Why most articles get this wrong
Two mistakes, and nearly every page on this question makes one of them.
The first is the VPN mistake: assume the show has vanished, then sell a VPN as the fix. There is no gap to fix. A page that does this loses the first reader who checks for herself. The honest VPN angle is narrow. Subtitle and dub tracks differ by country, and a subscriber who travels sees the local catalogue, not the one at home.
The second is the ownership mistake. Because Netflix rescued the show and commissioned three seasons of it, Lucifer gets called a Netflix series and people assume it can never leave. The reverse is true. Warner Bros. Television owns it. Netflix rents it.
A third trap catches Malayalam-speaking readers: the 2019 film called Lucifer, with Mohanlal, is a different title and is not on Netflix.

Fragments at local services are easily mistaken for the full run. Movistar Plus+ in Spain holds season 1. Two French services hold one season. FOD and Amazon in Japan rent three. Those are the Fox years, not the whole show. Aggregators also list an Apple TV app promotion in almost every country that looks like a subscription but is not a licence, plus trial offers at Prime Video and BINGE. None of those were counted.
Netflix commissioned it, Netflix does not own it
Seasons 1 to 3 aired on Fox between 2016 and 2018. Fox cancelled the show in May 2018. Netflix ordered season 4 in June 2018, then 5 and 6. The finale arrived on 10 September 2021.
Those Netflix seasons are licensed, not owned. Netflix was the commissioner, not the proprietor, which is the reason the series can leave at all.
What's on Netflix reported on 18 January 2023 that the licence runs for the life of the series plus ten years, landing around 10 September 2031. No studio statement, filing or trade report backs that up, so treat 2031 as one outlet's claim. It changes nothing today. No removal date for the series is shown in any of the markets checked.
The owner is being sold, and the sale is not closed
Warner Bros. Television owns Lucifer, with DC character rights inside the same group. The character comes from Neil Gaiman's The Sandman and Mike Carey's comic run.
That owner runs a rival service. HBO Max launched in May 2020 under WarnerMedia and passed to Warner Bros. Discovery when that company was formed in April 2022, and Lucifer stayed at Netflix throughout. The studio has gone on licensing library series to Netflix rather than pulling them back for its own platform.
Announced and done: WBD reviewed first bids from Paramount, Comcast and Netflix on 20 November 2025, backed a Netflix deal on 5 December 2025, saw Netflix turn its offer all cash on 13 January 2026, then watched it walk away on 26 February 2026. Paramount Skydance won at roughly 110 billion dollars.
Announced but not in force: a US judge halted the takeover on competition grounds in July 2026. Paramount settled with the state of California and the Writers Guild of America on 21 September 2026, and David Ellison said he expected to close within about two weeks. California was one of twelve states that filed the July lawsuit. On 24 September the court allowed the campaign group Block the Merger to file briefs opposing the settlement, and the consent decree still awaits approval. The deal is agreed but not in force, and no closing date is confirmed. So on 27 September 2026 the show still belongs to Warner Bros. Discovery.
Six seasons, 93 episodes, and whether to buy
The split is 13, 18, 26, 10, 16 and 10. It adds to 93, a useful check that nothing is missing from a listing. Season 6 ended the story on 10 September 2021. There is no season 7 and no sequel ordered.
No prices appear here on purpose. They differ by market and shop and go stale quickly. The shape still holds: buying all 93 episodes normally costs several times one month of a subscription, while a single season can land at or below it.
