Is Death Note on Netflix?
Yes, today. On 27 September 2026 the 2006 anime is on Netflix in 18 of the 19 countries we checked live. It is leaving soon, on different dates per country. Netflix UK loses it on 1 October 2026, so 30 September is the last day there. Netflix US is listed for 15 October 2026. For the other 16 countries where it plays today, the Netherlands included, we found no end date.
First settle which Death Note you mean. Five products carry the name, in five different rights positions. The 2017 Netflix film with Nat Wolff is a Netflix Original: on Netflix in every country we checked, no end date, not leaving. Most pages confuse that film with the anime.

Five titles, five answers
1. Anime, 2006, 37 episodes. Licensed to Netflix, and leaving. 2. Netflix film, 2017. Netflix Original, staying. 3. Four Japanese live-action films (2006, 2006, 2008, 2016). Netflix Japan only, in our sample. In the US, UK and Netherlands we found no streaming option, just discs. 4. Death Note, Japanese TV drama, 2015, 11 episodes. On Prime Video in the US and UK, and not on Netflix in either country when we checked. Searchers for the "series" often land here. 5. Death Note: Killer Within. Not a Netflix series. A Grounding Inc. and Bandai Namco game from 5 November 2024, listed as one anyway.
The two dates, and how solid each one is
UK. The What's on Netflix UK list, published 16 September and updated 21 September 2026, puts "Death Note (1 Season)" under 1 October 2026. An AnimeBlurayUK post on X from 7 September says 30 September. Those agree: Netflix shows a last day to watch, trackers log the day it is gone.
US. The same site's US list, published 25 September and updated 26 September 2026, puts "Death Note (Multiple Seasons)" under 15 October. One source, unconfirmed by Netflix, and the same tracker listed 15 October for the same title back in 2022, so an inherited old listing cannot be ruled out. The UK date is firm, the US date likely.
Both are announcements. On 27 September the anime still plays in both countries.
What we checked, and what we could not
Our checks ran on 27 September 2026 through the JustWatch API, for US, GB, NL, DE, CA, AU, JP, IN, FR, ES, IT, BR, MX, SE, PH, ZA, AT, CH and KR. Netflix runs in more than 190 markets, so this says nothing about the ones we did not check, and the British date is no evidence for the Dutch one.
JustWatch gave no Netflix end date in any of the 19, including the two documented departures, though it filled that field for HBO Max in Brazil and Mexico, 31 December 2026. Trackers show what is there now, not when Netflix drops it, so check your own account.
Season count unresolved: the US list says "Multiple Seasons", the UK list "1 Season", JustWatch one season everywhere. Use 37 episodes, broadcast 4 October 2006 to 27 June 2007.
Where else it is, and what buying costs
The anime has no exclusive home, which is why this exit matters less than it sounds. Nippon Television and its co-owners license it widely: Crunchyroll in GB, NL, DE, FR, ES, IT, SE, AT, CH and ZA, Prime Video, Hulu in the US, which Disney is folding into the Disney+ app during 2026, and HBO Max in Brazil and Mexico until 31 December 2026. Crunchyroll closed its free tier on 31 December 2025, so "free on Crunchyroll" is dead advice.
US. Cheapest digital purchase we measured: $29.99 at Fandango At Home. Netflix Standard with Ads is $8.99 a month, confirmed on netflix.com/ads-plan, so 3.3 months. The Apple TV Store sells the same 37 episodes as a complete-series bundle, and we did not record its price on the day, so we make no month comparison there. The series is also free with ads on Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Fandango at Home Free and Amazon Prime Video Free with Ads, so buy only to own it ad-free.
Elsewhere buying is worse. UK: the series is sold as a download by the Apple TV Store, Amazon Video and the Sky Store. We did not record which store each price came from, so we quote none here. Germany: €69.98 SD and €79.98 HD at Amazon Video, €50.99 for DVD at Thalia, against a Crunchyroll subscription of a few euros a month. Those are measured shop prices from today, not conversions, and the same 37 episodes cost $29.99 in the US. We did not measure Crunchyroll's UK or German price, so no month count there.
What a VPN does and does not do here
A VPN changes the network location your connection appears to come from. It does not change your billing region, it does not add a title to your plan, and crossing regions with one conflicts with Netflix's terms. Netflix blocks VPN traffic actively.
Here it is usually the wrong tool: American readers get the anime free with ads after 15 October, European readers have it on Crunchyroll. The honest case is Netflix Japan, which has all four live-action films and from 15 October may be the last Netflix with the anime. We found no end date for Japan either. To test it, NordVPN and Surfshark are the two we reviewed most recently.
The short answer
Today, yes, in 18 of 19 checked countries. It leaves Netflix UK on 1 October 2026 and, on one source, Netflix US on 15 October. For every other country, the Netherlands included, we have no date and will not guess one. The 2017 film stays.
