Is Call the Midwife on Netflix?
Yes in the United States. No in every other market checked. On 27 September 2026 Netflix US lists all 15 series, ad plan included, with no leaving notice.
Outside the US it flips. In the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, India and France it is not on Netflix. Where the complete run exists outside the US it sits with BBC-owned platforms: iPlayer, BritBox and BBC Player. France and New Zealand have no BBC route at all, and carry only part of the run on local services. Nine of the 190-plus markets Netflix runs in were checked, so this page says nothing about the rest.

The claim that keeps getting copied
In July 2012 BBC Worldwide announced it had sold Netflix the worldwide video-on-demand rights to Call the Midwife. That line still sits in the standard reference sources with no end date, and writers keep lifting it as current. A 2012 rights announcement is not 2026 availability. In eight of the nine markets checked Netflix does not carry the series, while iPlayer, BritBox, Sky Go or BBC Player do.
The second error is in reading the listings. In the UK and Ireland Netflix does appear on this title's page, but only inside Sky bundles that add a Netflix subscription alongside Sky Go. The series is in those bundles through Sky Go, not Netflix.
Netflix in the United States
All 15 series are there, on Netflix Standard with ads as well as the regular plans, with no expiry notice. PBS has broadcast it since 30 September 2012 and Hoopla has 14 series free with a library card. BritBox does not appear as a US route here, though it runs there; that rests on one listing and is unconfirmed.
The eight other markets checked
United Kingdom: iPlayer has all 15 free with a TV licence. Ireland has no iPlayer route, so Sky Go carries all 15 there and Sky Store sells 13. Sky Go has 15 in both. In the UK, U, the service that used to be UKTV Play, has three free with ads. A Sky Go counter reads "Leaving in 15 days" in both, so around 12 October 2026, a counter and not a published date.
Canada: BritBox has all 15, also as an Apple TV or Amazon channel, and Hoopla has 14 free with a library card.
Australia and New Zealand: BritBox has all 15 in Australia and does not run in New Zealand. Stan has 13 in Australia, Prime Video five in both.
Germany and India: BBC Player as an Amazon channel, 12 series in Germany and five in India. India has no free or purchase route and is not on JioHotstar. Germany and France use local titles, Ruf des Lebens and SOS Sages-Femmes, so English-title searches fail there. France has no BBC route: Rakuten TV has three series free with ads and the Apple TV Store sells seven.
Buying versus subscribing
Fifteen series bought one at a time costs a multiple of one month of any subscription, so buying the whole run is almost never rational. One series can be. Compare it against one month of the service carrying it, and check the price yourself: it varies by shop and country and goes stale fast.
Why it sits with the BBC and not Netflix
Neal Street Productions makes the series for BBC One and has sat under Banijay UK since the All3Media merger completed on 9 July 2026. Banijay runs no streaming service, so that explains nothing. International distribution runs through BBC Studios, which has owned BritBox outright since the purchase of ITV's remaining stake, announced on 29 February 2024. BritBox UK closed into ITVX on 30 April 2024, so it is never a British route. BritBox carries the complete run in Canada and Australia. It also runs in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, none of which were checked, so nothing here covers those four. A title anchoring your own subscription service does not get handed to Netflix.
Fifteen series, and two announcements
Series 15 ran from 11 January to 8 March 2026, which is why any count of 14 is out of date. Sisters in Arms, a three-part prequel set during the Blitz, was confirmed filming in June 2026, transmission planned for around Christmas 2026. A film set in 1972 was announced in development in May 2025. Neither is available on any platform today.
What this page cannot tell you
The Netherlands and the Nordics were not among the nine markets checked, so the position there is unknown. No end date is posted for Netflix US, which means no counter today rather than a long licence. The Sky Go notices come from a countdown, so 12 October 2026 is derived.
No sixteenth series has been commissioned and no ending has been announced, though the BBC said in June 2025 that a sixteenth series would follow in due course. Who holds international distribution after 9 July 2026 is unestablished: BBC Studios setting the practice is inferred from where the series sits, not from a contract. Per-platform counts were not verified individually, and iPlayer appears at both 11 and 15 series in one market.
